Denis McElroy joined the City Attorney’s Office in July 2006 working in the area of open records. He is currently assigned to represent a number of city departments on issues related to legal research and interpretation, contract review and ordinance drafting.

Prior Experience

Following law school, Denis McElroy served as briefing attorney for Chief Justice Marilyn Aboussie, Third Court of Appeals in Austin. Mr. McElroy later joined the Open Records Division of the Texas Attorney General’s Office – where he began as a drafting attorney – was promoted to senior managing attorney and was ultimately assigned to supervise the training of incoming attorneys. Mr. McElroy left the Attorney General’s Office for a position as an enforcement attorney for the Public Utility Commission, where he worked until an opening became available in the City Attorney’s Office, which allowed him to return to the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex to be closer to his family.
