Beck School of Construction - Fort Worth

The Beck School of Construction is a partnership between the City of Fort Worth and The Beck Group, a local integrated architecture and construction firm. The program provides comprehensive training sessions to help certified minority- and women-owned businesses. veteran-owned small businesses increase their industry knowledge, grow their expertise and become more competitive when bidding on construction projects.

The Beck School of Construction recently completed the fifth year of its program. As of 2023, graduates of the program had been awarded $30+ million in contracts.

 

About the school

A meet and greet networking event will be held on Tuesday, January 23, 2024 for the class of 2024 participants from 4-6 p.m.at the Hazel Harvey Peace Center, 818 Missouri Ave., in Fort Worth.

Classes will start on Thursday, Feb. 27, 2023, and will be held from 4-6 p.m. at the Hazel Harvey Peace Center, 818 Missouri Ave., in Fort Worth.

Program participants will be required to attend in-person class sessions over a period of nine months to graduate from the program.

Classes are Tuesday afternoon, one day per month, February through October.

  • Class 1: Tuesday, Feb. 27 - Marketing and Business Development
  • Class 2: Tuesday, March 26 - Risk and Insurance
  • Class 3: Tuesday, April 23 - Bids and Proposals
  • Class 4: Tuesday, May 28 - Preconstruction
  • Class 5: Tuesday, June 25 -Project Management
  • Class 6: Tuesday, July 23 -Jobsite Visit (Location TBD)
  • Class 7: Tuesday, Aug. 27 - Field Supervision
  • Class 8: Tuesday, Sep. 24 - Safety
  • Class 9: Tuesday, Oct. 22 - Accounting
  • Graduation: Date to be determined. - Fort Worth "New" City Hall, 100 Energy Way, Fort Worth 

Eligibility

Applicants must submit a completed application by the deadline of 5 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2024. Staff will notify applicants about their acceptance into the program by the end of January.

  1. Business must be certified as a minority or women-owned business enterprise (M/WBE) by the Dallas/Fort Worth Minority Supplier Development Council (DFWMSDC) or the North Central Texas Regional Certification Agency (NCTRCA) or the Women's Business Council - Southwest. 
    • Veteran-owned small Businesses and Services Disabled Veteran-owned small businesses that are honorable discharged are encouraged to apply an present your DD214.
  2. Business must have been in operation for one to ten years and have an average gross income per year of $100,000 or more.
  3. Business must provide construction services or construction-related services.
  4. Business must be located within the area's six-county marketplace: Tarrant, Dallas, Denton, Johnson, Parker and Wise counties.
