Next date: Tuesday, May 11, 2021 | 04:00 PM
to Saturday, May 22, 2021 | 11:59 PM
April is Fair Housing Month and the City of Fort Worth has partnered with Fort Worth Housing Solutions (FWHS) and the Fort Worth Community Arts Center (FWCAC) to present two opportunities to celebrate.
From April 16 thru May 22, The Evolution of Affordable Housing exhibit features photographs documenting Fort Worth’s need for safe, affordable housing. Those photographs include images from the 1930s through the era of red brick public housing communities to the modern model of mixed-income housing dispersed throughout the city and reflect the Fort Worth Housing Authority’s work to de-concentrate poverty and give residents access to homes in areas of greater opportunity.
The exhibit also includes an ongoing showing of the Butler Place short documentary that premiered in January at the Denton Black Film Festival. The film also may be viewed on YouTube at https://youtu.be/wUwqhfYuBU8.
On Tuesday, April 20 from Noon to 1 p.m. a “Boxed Lunch Series” panel discussion will be held on Facebook Live featuring FWHS President Mary-Margaret Lemons, housing consultant Ramon Guajardo Sr., and Prentice Gary, founder and managing partner of the Dallas-based Carleton Companies, a multi-family and affordable housing developer. The discussion will be moderated by Christina Brooks, the City of Fort Worth’s Chief Equity Officer. Learn more at https://fb.me/e/4PKusoopJ. If you are unable to join the Facebook Live event, a video will be available afterward.
The FWCAC is open to visitors but observing CDC mask guidelines and social distancing protocols. Visit www.fwcac.org to learn more.
