Join author Joe Nick Patoski and musicians Mike Buck and Jackie Newhouse previously in Robert Ealey's band for a presentation then Q&A. Robert Ealey and His Five Careless Lovers, and gave their oral histories to the author for the book. Record Town will also be featuring the new reissue of Robert Ealey and His Five Careless Lovers Live at the New Blue Bird (album) on Saturday, Feb. 27. Record Town is celebrating February 27 as Texas Independents Day


Joe Nick Patoski

Joe Nick Patoski has been writing about Texas and Texans for five decades. He has authored and co-authored biographies of Willie Nelson, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Selena, and the Dallas Cowboys, and wrote the text to coffee table books on the Texas Mountains, the Texas Coast, and Big Bend National Park.

His previous book was Austin to ATX: The Hippies, Pickers, Slackers & Geeks Who Transformed the Capital of Texas, published in 2019.

His new book, The Ballad of Robert Ealey and his Five Careless Lovers, is an oral history of the seminal blues band Patoski grew up with in Fort Worth in the early 1970s.

Mike Buck

Mike Buck was the drummer for the Fabulous Thunderbirds, co-founded the Leroi Brothers, and played with Doug Sahm in the Texas Mavericks. He co-owns Antone’s Record Shop in Austin with his wife, guitarist Eve Monsees, with whom he plays drums in Eve and the Exiles, as well as with several other bands.

Jackie Newhouse

Jackie Newhouse plays bass for the blues guitarist Alan Haynes, after a career playing with Stevie Ray Vaughan’s Triple Threat Revue and Double Trouble. Anson Funderburgh and the Rockets and the Leroi Brothers. He lives in Austin.
