Tarrant County Youth Poet Laureate

Tarrant County College (TCC) Trinity River Campus will host the Tarrant County Youth Poet Laureate competition for Tarrant County. The winner will have the opportunity to apply for the regional competition in Fall 2023. If chosen, they they will become a regional ambassador who competes for nationals.

Regional ambassadors are announced in January each year, and the National Youth Poet Laureate is announced in late April or early May.

Your Fort Worth Public Library is partnering with TCC to support young writers and their journey through a variety of programs and workshops. 

 

Competition

Step 1.About the Competition

The Youth Poet Laureate title is held in the United States by a young person who demonstrates skill in the arts, particularly poetry and/or spoken word, is a strong leader, is committed to social justice, and is active in civic discourse and advocacy.

The National Youth Poet Laureate initiative was founded by Urban Word, an organization that provides free literary arts education and youth development programs.

Commencement will be held on Thursday, July 27, 2023 from 6 - 7:30 p.m.


Step 2.Eligibility

Open to anyone who is between the ages of 13 and 19. Be prepared to submit five poems and a list of all your education, publications, accomplishments, notable projects, awards, honors, achievements, and professional experiences.
