The Fort Worth Municipal Court was established by the Fort Worth City Council in the City Charter of 1924.  The Fort Worth Municipal Court is a Court of Record whose purpose is to do justice while providing equal protection in the due process of law.  The Court has jurisdiction within the City of Fort Worth's territorial limits over all Class C misdemeanor criminal cases brought under City ordinances and the Texas Penal Code.  These cases are punishable by fine only. The Court also processes civil parking cases filed within the territorial limits of the City of Fort Worth.

The Department is divided into four divisions: Administration, Clerk of the Court, Judicial, and City Marshal.
