Transportation & Public Works

Mobility and pedestrian-oriented neighborhoods are important to the residents of Fort Worth. The Transportation and Public Works Department (TPW) meets these challenges by maintaining:

  • 8120 lane miles of street surface
  • 2640 miles of sidewalks
  • 230 miles of engineered drainage channels
  • 923 traffic signals
  • 60,000 street lights
  • 204 rail crossings
  • 27,500 storm drains/inlets

As important are future roadways and current performance conditions of the roadway system. Staff routinely analyzes and recommends transit and roadway projects that will reduce congestion, improve air-quality and move traffic.
