Pet lovers, take a few extra steps to ensure pets are well-protected during these cold and freezing temperatures. Fort Worth Animal Care & Control is asking everyone to keep an eye open for pets who may be in distress during these winter temperatures.

Fort Worth animal welfare ordinances require that all pets have access to an adequate shelter allowing the animal to stay dry and protected from the elements at all times. Pets must have access to water and food.

Here’s a few cold-weather tips for pets: Preferably their inside with their family.

  • Feeding your pet a little bit more during the cold weather months can provide much-needed calories, and making sure they have plenty of water to drink will help keep them well-hydrated and their skin less dry.
  • Remember, if it’s too cold for you, it’s probably too cold for pets, so keep animals inside.
