Want to make a splash at the pool this summer while earning extra money and gaining valuable work experience?

Individuals interested in becoming a lifeguard at one of Fort Worth’s aquatic facilities must undergo tryouts before completing the American Red Cross lifeguard certification course. Class participants must be 15 years or older to take the class, and must be 16 or older to work for the City of Fort Worth.

Participants must pass a swimming pretest to qualify for the class. This pretest will consist of:

  • A 300-meter swim (front crawl or breast stroke).
  • Treading water for two minutes without using hands.
  • A timed brick retrieval from a depth of 12 feet.

All classes and tryouts will be held at the Texas Wesleyan University indoor pool, located in the Sid Richardson Building at 1101 Collard St., on these dates in 2022:

  • Friday, Jan. 7, 7 p.m.
  • Saturday, Jan. 8, noon.
  • Friday, Jan. 14, 7 p.m.
  • Friday, Jan. 21, 7 p.m.

  • Saturday, Jan. 12, 5 p.m.
  • Saturday, Feb. 19, 5 p.m.
  • Saturday, March 5, 5 p.m.

Dates for spring 2022 classes have not yet been determined; classes will be held 6-10 p.m. Friday and 2-10 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Class schedules will be provided upon completion of the pretest. Students must attend all assigned class days; there are no makeup classes.
