Work continues on the I-820 East Loop project in east Fort Worth, with a significant change in the project landscape at the I-820/State Hwy. 121 interchange.

Work is progressing toward completion this fall on the State Hwy. 10 bridge crossing I-820, removing the old I-820 southbound main lanes and bridges over State Hwy. 121 and the Trinity Railway Express, removing the old I-820 southbound bridges crossing the Trinity River, constructing new retaining walls along I-820 northbound main lanes between Randol Mill Road and the Trinity River, and on the I-820 north to 121 south direct connector.

Aerial photographs are available on the project website.

As part of the Texas Clear Lanes initiative focused on improving mobility throughout the state, the I-820 East Loop project was begun by the Texas Department of Transportation in July 2018. The work is part of a $3.8 billion congestion relief initiative started by Gov. Greg Abbott and the Texas Legislature to reduce gridlock in some of the state’s most congested areas.

Project improvements will reconstruct the existing roadway and access ramps, build additional lanes in each direction, replace the Trinity River bridge and create new direct connectors to and from State Hwy. 121.
