Park & Recreation

 

The Park & Recreation Department maintains over 300 parks (over 13,000 acres) and public spaces citywide, as well as providing recreational activities and educational programming that makes Fort Worth a great place to live, work and play.

Dave Lewis, a seasoned parks and recreation professional with over 16 years of management and executive experience, was named director of the  Fort Worth Park & Recreation Department in 2024. Since joining the City of Fort Worth in 2019, he has held key leadership roles, including assistant director, interim director, and deputy director, overseeing administration, golf, athletics, and recreation.


Before coming to Fort Worth, Lewis served in multiple leadership roles with the Metropolitan Park District of Tacoma, Washington. He holds a bachelor’s degree in communications from Eastern Washington University and is an active member of several state and national parks and recreation associations

The Park & Recreation Department has a variety of divisions to make Fort Worth fun for families, seniors, and kids of all ages.

Park & Recreation Advisory Board

The Park & Recreation Advisory Board, est. 1964, is responsible for providing policy recommendations and information to the City Manager and the City Council about citizen needs and requests that will improve the services of the Department; recommends to the City Manager and the City Council plans for development of facilities and services to meet the needs of the City; reviews and comments upon the proposed annual operating budget and capital improvement program request. Recommendations made by the Board will be presented to the City Manager and the City Council for consideration.

Park hours are 5:00 am to 11:30pm unless posted otherwise.

Park users must pick up pet waste. (Ord. 24-2)

No Littering. (Ord. 24-4)

Selling of goods and services is prohibited. (Ord. 24-6)

No riding, tethering or pasturing animals. (Ord. 24-10)

Dogs must be on a leash. (Ord. 24-9)

Off road driving is prohibited. (Ord. 24-15)
