City Council recap for Sept. 27

The Fort Worth City Council met at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 27at City Hall. Here’s a recap of major decisions:

  • The City Council passed a budget that adds money to the annual operations budget for public safety improvements and to clean up litter across the city. The City’s overall fiscal 2023 budget is approximately $2.3 billion. The Council by a 7-2 vote approved a $915.3 million General Fund budget, which pays for most city services and operations. The Council also voted 7-2 to decrease the City’s property tax rate 2 cents. District 3 Councilmember Michael Crain and District 4 Councilmember Alan Blaylock voted against both the budget and the tax rate.
  • Members agreed to file a lawsuit against Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton over the release of confidential information contained in employee files after a public information request.
  • Members voted to spend $219,942 with Kimley-Horn and Associates for a mobility study in the Fort Worth Stockyards.
  • The Council voted 7-2 to amend public participation rules related to time allotted per speaker and when speakers are recognized to address the Council. The new rules take effect Oct. 4.
  • Members extended a declaration of local disaster through Oct. 25 in response to heavy rains and flooding in August.
  • A vote supports a working group to enhance maternal, infant and child health outcomes.
  • The Council allocated American Rescue Plan Act funds for a slate of eligible projects.
  • A contract with Tarrant Area Food Bank for up to $3.2 million will help acquire property at 205 N. Vacek St. to expand food distribution capacity.
  • A Council contract with United Way of Tarrant County will help implement the One Second Collaborative to address youth gun violence.
