Environmental Excellence Awards

The awards program began in 1999 as the Pretreatment Awards, honoring companies in full compliance with wastewater regulations. Those awards continue and are based on the number of consecutive years of compliance. The program has been expanded to recognize other businesses and individuals or groups s for their commitment to environmental awareness and practices.

The City of Fort Worth Environmental Awards program recognizes monitored companies in full compliance with wastewater regulations and other businesses that demonstrate innovation in waste reduction, recycling and water efficiency. The awards program is joint effort of the Water Utility and Environmental Department

A list of award categories and descriptions are below.

Green Educator of the Year (new in 2023)
  • Recognizes an educator committed to ending litter, who demonstrates support for the environment and sustainability
Community Litter Control Award (new in 2023)
  • Recognizes individuals or community groups working toward a more beautiful city
Industry of the Year
  • Recognizes the Fort Worth industry that has demonstrated 5 or more years of consistent compliance and significant pollution prevention activities

Innovation Award
  • Recognizes companies leading the way and exceeding standards in regards to pollution prevention and conservation by demonstrating unique, impactful programs
  •  Categories are Water Use & Process Improvement, Water Conservation, Stormwater, Air Quality, Land Redevelopment, Solid Waste Reduction and Recycling

Recognition Award
  • Recognizes company efforts for participating in programs that encourage conservation and mindful stewardship
SmartWater Award
  • Recognizes to industrial, commercial and institutional customers implementing water efficiency strategies following a SmartWater audit.
Pollution Prevention Award
  • Recognizes outstanding pollution prevention activities

The following awards recognize industries whose wastewater discharges are regulated and monitored by the water utility in accordance with the Clean Water Act. The businesses must in full compliance with their discharge permits and other environmental regulations. 

Stewardship Award 
  • Recognizes companies with 11 to 19 consecutive years of 100 percent compliance
Partnership Award
  • Recognizes companies with three to 10 consecutive years of 100 percent compliance
Associate Award
  • Recognizes companies with two consecutive years of 100 percent compliance
Star Award
  • Recognizes companies with one year of 100 percent compliance

Deadline is now closed.

The awards ceremony is on Nov. 1.
