According to U.S. Census Bureau estimates:

  • Fort Worth’s population was 1,008,106 as of July 1, 2024. This marks the first time Fort Worth’s population has reached the 1 million milestone.
  • Fort Worth is now the 11th largest city in the United States by population. In the past year, Fort Worth surpassed the population of Austin. The population of Fort Worth trails 10th-ranked Jacksonville by less than 2,000 people.
  • Of the 30 most populous cities, Fort Worth has grown the fastest since 2020, 9.7% population growth over the last four years, and 3.1% in the past year.
  • If this growth rate continues, the population of Fort Worth may surpass Jacksonville to become the 10th largest city in the U.S this year.
  • Of all cities over 20,000 people, Fort Worth had the 5th largest gain in population in the past year, adding 23,442 people (approximately 64 people per day). New York City had the largest annual gain with 87,184.
  • Of the top 30 most populous cities, Fort Worth ranks 24th in terms of population density (only Oklahoma City, Jacksonville, Nashville-Davidson County, Memphis, Indianapolis, and El Paso are less dense than Fort Worth).
