Important Update for Meacham Airport Tenants and Users
Scheduled Capital Improvement Projects
We’re pleased to share early news about upcoming improvements to Meacham International Airport.
Apron Bravo and Taxiway Golf Reconstruction Project – Estimated Completion FY 2026
Currently, Apron Bravo consists of an asphalt overlay atop a concrete base and has a low pavement condition rating of 47 out of 100. This area serves as the parking location for the airport’s largest aircraft, including A320s, A321s, and B777s. Similarly, Taxiway Golf also has an asphalt overlay over concrete but holds the airport’s lowest pavement condition rating at just 29 out of 100. It serves as the primary access route between Taxiway Alpha and Meacham’s heavy ramp, where these large aircraft are stationed. Based on the 2023 Pavement Condition Index (PCI) assessment conducted by our engineering consultant as part of the PCN Study, both pavements are categorized as poor to very poor. This project will consist of reconstructing failed pavement on Apron Bravo, as well as reconstructing and realigning Taxiway Golf to be in compliance with current FAA standards. Construction is scheduled to begin July of 2025, with completion expected in April of 2026.
Main Street – Airport Frontage Improvement Project – Est. Completion FY 2027
This project aims to enhance and organize utility infrastructure along North Main Street, adjacent to the airport. Key improvements include upgraded drainage, better wayfinding signage, and smoother roadway transitions from Main Street into the airport. It also covers utility upgrades from NW 38th Street to Gate 1 at the north end of Meacham Airport. Additional enhancements involve installing an enclosed drainage system, new curbs and gutters, street lighting, pedestrian sidewalks, undergrounding of existing overhead power lines, new gateway monuments, wayfinding signage, and landscaping. The construction contract was awarded to Fain Group, Inc., following approval by the Mayor and City Council on June 24, 2025. Construction is expected to begin August of 2025 and take approximately 18 months to complete.
New Maintenance Building – Est. Completion FY 2027
A new maintenance facility will be built to replace the current Quonset hut, which is outdated, undersized, and no longer meets the operational needs of the airport. The new building will provide adequate space to consolidate maintenance staff and equipment in one location, allowing for more efficient work on airport materials and machinery. This design-build project led by SpawGlass Contractors has begun design, with construction expected to be completed in Fall of 2026.
Runway 16/34 Rehabilitation Project – Estimated Start FY 2028
In January 2024, a nondestructive pavement assessment was conducted on Runway 16/34. The study provided a detailed engineering evaluation of current conditions. While much of the runway remains in good shape, the evaluation revealed some linear cracking, shattered concrete slabs, failed shoulders and a Runway Safety Area (RSA) that does not meet FAA design standards.
This information was shared with TxDOT Aviation in Spring of 2024 to support long-term planning. Following ongoing discussions with the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) Aviation Division and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the City of Fort Worth has received confirmation that funding for significant improvements to Runway 16/34 is advancing. These upgrades are tentatively targeted for 2028. The estimated project cost is $26M.
As planning begins, we want to ensure airport tenants and users are kept informed and involved. Early engagement is key to minimizing disruptions and allowing ample time to plan for any operational impacts.
We are in the very early stages of the planning process. As details develop, we will schedule planning sessions and tenant meetings to share updates, answer questions, and gather feedback.
We encourage all tenants and airport users to stay connected and participate in these meetings to remain informed throughout the project timeline.
These essential capital improvement projects are planned to begin and be completed within the next five years. Funding is being provided by the FAA, TxDOT, and the Aviation Department, with a combined investment of over $48.5 million. We apologize in advance for any inconvenience these construction activities may cause and appreciate your patience as we work to improve airport infrastructure.
Being a Good Neighbor
Meacham International Airport recognizes the importance of being a responsible neighbor, and is committed to managing the impact of aircraft operations on local residents. In an effort to continue to provide an excellent facility, a noise abatement program has been developed with the participation of the airport operators, neighborhood representatives, the Federal Aviation Administration and the City of Fort Worth.
The purpose of this program is to minimize the noise impact of aircraft operations on the surrounding neighborhoods without unduly restricting use of the airport.
