Zoning Issues

Zoning regulations play a vital role in supporting safe, organized, and livable neighborhoods. These rules help reduce street congestion, prevent overcrowding, preserve property values, and promote the overall health and well-being of Fort Worth residents.

The City's Code Compliance Department routinely investigates zoning violations, which may include:

  • Operating automobile repair shops, wrecking yards, or daycares in residential areas

  • Storing materials or items outside where not permitted

  • Encroaching on public right-of-way

  • Installing nonstandard or unapproved fencing

Garage Sales:

While the City of Fort Worth does not require permits for garage sales, residents are asked to limit them to no more than two per year.

Enforcement:
When a violation is identified, a written notice is issued directing the responsible party to correct the issue. Failure to comply may result in a fine of up to $2,000 per offense for illegal uses of zoned property.

For questions or to report a potential zoning issue, please contact the Code Compliance Department.
