Learn about the engaging art of taiko drumming and then build a song with other participants by incorporating the taiko trifecta of movement, spirit and voice. The workshop will be led by Fort Worth-based taiko drum ensemble Goisagi. Led by Kena Sosa, participants will learn aspects of how the traditional Japanese drum music is created.
As a destination for discovery, your Fort Worth Public Library celebrates the arts in all its forms. This musical program was designed for adults who want to expand their artistic horizons.
Goisagi, named for the Japanese word for “night heron,” was founded in 2013 by Sean Ibanez. He was soon joined by Kena Sosa, and the pair form the basis for the group, which has since added additional members to create modern taiko across north Texas. Goisagi brings its brand of original, dynamic percussion pieces set to choreography to provide live audiences with visually exciting and loud shows. Their first EP, Alight, is available on the Fort Worth Public Library’s Amplify 817 to stream free and commercial-free.
Ring in the summer with a worldwide day of music in Cowtown! The Fort Worth Public Library, in partnership with Hear Fort Worth, is participating in its first Make Music Day on June 21 by hosting free events at multiple library locations for all in the area to enjoy. There is something for every age to get up and get that musical energy buzzing!
