Tarrant County College (TCC) Trinity River Campus will host a Regional Youth Poet Laureate (RYPL) Competition for Tarrant County on April 15, 2023. Our Tarrant County winner will have the opportunity to move forward in the competition by developing an application for regionals in late April. By Fall 2023 our Tarrant County YPL will apply for the regional competition. If they advance, they will then be a regional ambassador who competes for nationals.

Your Fort Worth Public Library is partnering with TCC to support young writers and their journey through a variety of programs and workshops.

Step 1.About the Competition

The Youth Poet Laureate title is held in the United States by a young person who demonstrates skill in the arts, particularly poetry and/or spoken word, is a strong leader, is committed to social justice, and is active in civic discourse and advocacy.

The National Youth Poet Laureate initiative was founded by Urban Word, an organization that provides free literary arts education and youth development programs.

Step 2.Eligibility

Open to anyone who is between the ages of 13 and 19. Be prepared to submit five poems and a list of all your education, publications, accomplishments, notable projects, awards, honors, achievements, and professional experiences.
