North Park
North Park is a 61.5-acre community park located approximately 1.3 miles east of l-35W and approximately 3.5 miles north of 1-820. The 1998 Bond Program included the acquisition of a north FW community park. Acquisition of 54 acres from Hillwood Development was approved by City Council in 1999.
On October 13, 2009, City Council authorized the dedication of 12.879 acres in accordance with the Neighborhood and Community Park Dedication Policy as an addition to North Park.
Original Master Plan and Park Development
In 1999, preparation of a master plan was begun by Carter & Burgess, Inc. The original park master plan was endorsed by the Park & Recreation Advisory Board on January 18, 2000. Original park development was funded by the 1998 Bond Program and a Texas Parks and Wildlife Urban Outdoor Grant.
Park improvements included 4 soccer fields, 1 softball field, 1 inline hockey rink and basketball courts. These improvements were completed in September 2002.
North Park Community Center
The 2004 Bond Program included a community center in North FW. The City partnered with the YMCA in the development of the North Park Community Center which was completed in December 2008.
2019 Master Plan Update and 2022 Park Development
The 2018 Bond Program included a master plan update and park development at North Park. Additional 2018 Bond funding included athletic field lighting and a universal playground.
On July 24, 2019, the Park Board endorsed an update to the North Park Master Plan. Park improvements a complete renovation of the soccer field complex (grading, irrigation, turf, and fencing), a restroom & concession building, bleachers with shade structures, three practice soccer fields, a universal playground, a basketball court, expansion of the existing parking lot and replacement of sections of the existing park trail.
A ribbon-cutting event celebrating the completion of these improvements to be held on April 23, 2022.
