The City of Fort Worth Library department is seeking an Office Assistant for the Collection Development team. The Office Assistant will be assigned to the Collection Development/Floating team. This team member will sort donations, evaluate incoming overflow items from branches for condition, assist with the reallocation of materials from the floating collection, assist with collection projects at branches, and incoming shipment from branches. This position is located at the Library’s Operations Center at 8628 Camp Bowie West. Your contributions will help create a positive experience for our team and our patrons and your contribution will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of library services.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma/GED
  • Two years of responsible clerical experience

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience in a library or bookstore environment is a plus
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Proficiency in basic computer applications
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule
  • Possession of, or the ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid Texas driver’s license and reliable transportation during working hours

 

Essential job functions:

  • Sort materials from branch overflow for condition
  • Evaluate materials for inclusion in the floating collection
  • Sort donations for condition and possible inclusion in the collection
  • Process holds from the floating collection
  • Sort the incoming shipment from branches for the Operations center
  • Assist with collection projects at branches
  • Process materials for the Sustainable Shelves program
  • Shelve items for Floating Collection
  • Pull items from Floating Collection for branch restocking
  • Contribute to the overall efficiency of library operations through collaboration and communication with team members

 

Physical Demands

Sedentary Work – Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, a negligible amount of force frequently, and/or or constantly having to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.

Working Conditions

Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically require touching, talking, hearing, seeing, grasping, standing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, walking, repetitive motions, climbing, balancing, pushing, pulling and lifting.
