Section 2-37. (b) (1) of the City code requires that “No less than thirty (30) days prior to the beginning of each fiscal year, the department of internal audit shall submit an annual audit plan to the city council or its delegate for review and comment.” Currently, the annual audit plan is submitted to the Audit and Finance Committee.
The City of Fort Worth’s Audit and Finance Committee is a standing City Council committee that consists of five council members appointed by the Mayor. The Audit and Finance Committee provides advice to the City Council with respect to oversight for financial reporting, internal controls and auditing activities. The committee does not have direct authority over any such matters, but may vote to recommend that the City Council take certain actions, or recommend that the City Council direct the city manager to take certain actions. The City Council may refer appropriate matters for review by the committee, but the committee’s oversight of such matters is advisory in nature.
Our mission is to assist the mayor and city council in the effective discharge of their responsibilities by identifying risks and conducting independent and objective evaluations of city programs and services. Internal Audit aims to help promote fiscal stewardship, transparency and add value by ensuring that the City of Fort Worth’s governance processes are efficient, effective and are in compliance with applicable regulatory guidelines.
