Emergency Rental Assistance

The Emergency Rental Assistance Program (ERAP) was created to keep City of Fort Worth families in their homes. This included rent, past due rent, utilities, past due utility payments and other housing expenses resulting from the coronavirus outbreak. Funding was provided by U.S. Treasury Department and Texas Department of Housing & Community Affairs.

The City of Fort Worth ERAP program closed on March 31, 2022 and staff will continue to process applications until all the funds are exhausted. 

 

What if I’ve already applied?

  • Applications will be prioritized based on eviction status, income level, and application submission date. 
  • Applications received prior to the March 31, 2022 closure date are not guaranteed assistance.

Fraudulent Award Letters:

The Neighborhood Services Department has been made aware of fraudulent letters purporting to be award letters from the City of Fort Worth Emergency Rental Assistance Program (ERAP). Please note that all communication regarding ERAP are provided from a City of Fort Worth email account and/or on official City letterhead, and will contain the following information:

  • Name & phone number of your reviewer
  • Email domain will display as: firstname.lastname@fortworthtexas.gov
  • Amount of award received for rent and/or utilities
  • Processing time
  • Case ID number
  • Information pertaining to your application where information can be obtained for your records

Frequently Asked Questions

Why have you closed the program?

Due to the success of this program, the number of applications currently in the ERAP portal exceeds the available amount of funds. As a result, to ensure transparency with residents and applicants, the City of Worth has decided to close the ERAP portal on March 31, 2022.

What about people whose needs were not addressed?

The City of Fort Worth can direct those still in need to other available resources through other departments of the city, the county, and the state. In the interim applicants may call 211, the Texas Health and Human Services helpline or visit 211texas.org. 

What other resources are available to struggling families who have not been able to make ends meet as the pandemic impacts our daily lives?

The City of Fort Worth is directing citizens that have not been assisted to other available resources that may still have funding available. The City of Fort Worth can direct those still in need to other available resources through other departments of the city, the county, and the state.
