Fort Worth invests in Las Vegas Trail neighborhood

The City of Fort Worth is showcasing the progress of its $3.5 million investment in the Las Vegas Trail neighborhood.

“It’s exciting and I can’t wait,” said resident Elida Rocha, who has noticed the changes happening on her street.

The City’s Code Compliance Department has been clearing debris and installing waste containers. Police installed security cameras, and officers are working with nearby apartment managers to prevent crime, which has shown a reduction compared to the rest of the city.

The City’s Transportation & Public Works Department is adding lighting and building sidewalks.

Improvements in the Las Vegas Trail neighborhood were highlighted at Thursday’s annual RISE Luncheon fundraiser event. District 3 Councilmember Michael Crain was one of the event’s speakers.

The event celebrates the progress of revitalization around Las Vegas Trail and anticipates improvements yet to come. Proceeds from the RISE Luncheon fund and support LVTRise's community outreach programs.

“We have new sidewalks put in here along Calmont, farther down the street, up and down Cherry Lane, where we have a lot of foot traffic. It’s easier for some of the neighbors to get around,” Rocha said.

A roundabout with an art installation is being put in near Las Vegas Trail and Normandale Street. The artwork was created by artist Mark Reigelman.

Over the past six years, funds have been allocated to neighborhoods as part of the City’s Neighborhood Improvement Program, whose goals include promoting economic revitalization and providing supportive services to reduce poverty and create paths to self-sufficiency.

The Las Vegas Trail area is home to about 14,000 residents in a 1.7-square-mile area. There is a 33% poverty rate and estimated 10% unemployment rate.
