Water & Sanitary Sewer Imrpovements

This is Phase 3 of the Sycamore Creek Wastewater Improvement project.  This phase is the southernmost end of the 66-inch parallel relief Sycamore Creek sanitary sewer relief main. The new 66-inch sewer main will run parallel to the existing concrete sewer main which varies in diameter from 48 inches to 54 inches.

The sewer main currently serving the Sycamore Creek basin area does not have the capacity to serve existing customers in the basin and the proposed developments that are located further south. This phase stretches from Vickery Boulevard south to Cobb Park Drive.

The impacted area starts at Sycamore Terrace, just south of East Vickery Boulevard, at Sycamore Park. The main extends southerly, crossing Sycamore Creek, then continues south across East Rosedale Street to the Maddox Avenue/Duval Street intersection. The main continues to run south, along Duval Street then crosses Hwy. 287 and Arlington Avenue and ends at Cobb Park Drive West, north of Sycamore Creek.

  • Phase 1 of the parallel lines started at I-30 (Trinity Trails System) and extended south to Union Pacific Railroad, along Windham Street. (complete)
  • Phase 2 picked up at Windham Street and went south through the former 9-hole Sycamore Creek Golf Course to south of East Vickery Boulevard (complete)
  • Phase 3 extends from Vickery to Cobb Park Drive (construction; projected end date is May 2023)
  • Sewer Rehabilitation -  Sycamore Creek Sewer Rehabilitation is the rehabilitation of the existing sewer line (construction/projected end date is March 2023)
  • Phase 4A and 4B  - Sycamore Creek Phase 4A & 4B Wastewater Improvements  is the final phase that is responsible for constructing a sewer main - parallel to an existing sewer main (Phase 4A is in final design with a projected end date of September 2025; Phase 4B is in preliminary design with a projected end date of  March 2026)

Project Update

If you enjoy walking and biking the Trinity Trails through Sycamore Park, the trail has been temporarily rerouted in order to protect park visitors during the construction of a public 66-inch in diameter sanitary sewer main. The new main will run parallel to an existing sewer main that is located in Sycamore Park as well as Cobb Park.

The Water Department coordinated with the Parks and Recreation Department to develop this alternative Trinity Trail route for patrons. Signs alerting customers to the closure of the current trail and the reroute to the alternate trail were in place by Jan. 19, 2022. Gates were added to the fencing to further increase public safety.

The trail has been rerouted to the east  - to Ernest Street at West Vickery - just west of Beach Street. The trail on the west side of the park is closed to prevent pedestrian and bicycle traffic into the construction zone during installation of the main. See attached Sycamore Park Trail Closure Plan.
