Bagged household garbage

Single stream recyclables, the same items that go into your Blue Recycling cart 

Scrap metal materials, including:

• Gutters
• Metal fencing and posts (If posts contain concrete or other non-metal material, it must be separated from your scrap metal load and disposed of in the household garbage container.)
• Rebar
• Bed rails
• Grills (Empty; no burnt ashes.)
• Mailboxes
• Pots, pans, skillets, baking/cooking sheets
• Car parts (Engine parts are not accepted.)

Bulk waste/Bulky trash (larger than a residential garbage cart)

Brush & Yard waste (Must be securely contained or bagged in Kraft bags.)

Passenger vehicle tires. Limit: four per household every six months (rims and tires must be separated)

Other material disposal:

Household hazardous waste (HHW)

Residents are to place all household hazardous waste on the designated HHW collection tables.

Limit 20 gallons of household chemicals per household every 3 months including:

• Automotive fluids (gasoline, motor oil, transmission fluids, brake fluid, and antifreeze in labeled containers)
• Home and bathroom chemicals (cleaning supplies)
• Cooking fats, oils, and grease
• Lawn/garden chemicals (herbicide, pesticides, and fertilizers)
• Pool chemicals
• Paint

In addition, the Drop off Stations accept universal waste such as the items listed below:

• Light bulbs (fluorescent, incandescent, and CFLs). Limit 10 fluorescent tubed lighting every 3 months.
• All batteries (household and auto)

Free secure paper shredding

This is available to residents every day.

• Secure shred carts have been installed at all Drop-Off Stations.
• Residents can bring up to three boxes (letter/legal size dimensions: 15"L x 12"W x 10"H) per visit and up to six boxes every 3 months of personal, sensitive documents to be securely shredded.

The following items will NOT be accepted:

• Business papers – recycle.
• Junk mail – recycle.
• No documents with name and address only – recycle.
• Metal clips, binders – garbage.
• CDs, DVDs, floppy disks – garbage.
• Photos – garbage.
• Credit cards – garbage.
• Plastic of any kind – recycle or garbage.

Clean, ink-free Styrofoam

Ensure food containers are empty, clean and dry. Colored or dyed Styrofoam is not accepted in the Styrofoam recycling program; it can be disposed of in a regular garbage container. Items that can be recycled include:

• Cups
• Coolers
• Foam ice chests
• To-go food containers
• Egg cartons
• Rigid packaging (Styrofoam used for shipping and packing items such as electronics)

Food Scrap Composting Program

Fort Worth residents now have the opportunity to turn even more waste into resources by collecting their food scraps, which can be processed into compost — a rich soil nutrient. When composted, food scraps are diverted from your garbage cart, helping to preserve the life of the city’s landfill.

Loads that are not properly secured or covered

Loose trash, leaves, grass, or other small debris 

• All small loose items must be securely contained or bagged.

Concrete, rock, dirt, and ceramic tile

Explosives or ammunition

Roofing material (residential or commercial)

• Landfill disposal sites are available for these items.

Material containing asbestos (flooring, ceiling tiles, “popcorn” style ceiling)

Oxygen, CO₂, butane, helium or propane tanks

Radioactive items such as oilfield pipes or smoke detectors

Titled vehicles such as mopeds, motorcycles, or jet skis

Who can use the Drop-Off Stations?

 City of Fort Worth residents with active City of Fort Worth solid waste accounts on your water bill can use all DOS services.
Apartment residents living in Fort Worth can bring recycling and household hazardous waste (HHW) to DOS with a driver’s license as proof of address.

What are the Drop-Off Station hours of operation?

 Tuesday – Friday: 8 am – 5 pm
Saturday: 8 am – 12 pm
Sunday & Monday: Closed
DOS locations are closed for City holidays: Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Friday after Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, and New Year's Day.

What documents do I need to use the Drop-Off Station?

Can I use a Drop-Off Station for recycling and HHW, if I live in an apartment in Fort Worth?

Yes. Fort Worth apartment residents can bring recyclables and HHW with either a driver’s license or a current Fort Worth water bill (if available). Other waste types are limited to solid waste account holders.
Also, check with your apartment complex for recycling options. All apartment complexes in Fort Worth are required to provide recycling options for residents.

What am I allowed to bring to the Drop-Off Stations?

Why do I need both a driver’s license and a water bill for household garbage, bulk waste, brush/yard waste, and small home repair & remodel waste?

 The City is ensuring that all waste brought to a DOS is from a Fort Worth residence. Waste from commercial or out-of-city sources is not accepted.

What are the limits on how often I can visit, and how much I can bring?

Can I use a trailer, and what are the trailer size requirements?

 Yes. Residents can bring a single-axle trailer that is up to 8 feet long and 6 feet wide, with a load height maximum of 3 feet. This is approximately 5 cubic yards of waste.

What happens if I bring too much or the wrong type of waste?

Residents with loose debris (like small pieces of sheetrock, leaves, or rocks/soil) must go directly to a landfill or another appropriate location for disposal. If loads exceed the allowable quantities, then the entire load will be redirected.

What if my item is not accepted at a Drop-Off Station?

Rethink your waste. Staff are happy to assist you with options to correctly and safely discard your material. Remember that illegal dumping is a crime, so check out other resources. As an example, consider donating titled vehicles/boats to a non-profit organization.

 What about food waste and food scraps?

 Rethink your waste. Food scraps should be composted, if possible. Otherwise, food waste should be disposed as household garbage.

Will someone unload my items for me?

Residents are expected to unload items themselves. Staff are available to assist seniors and individuals with disabilities. Please contact the 311 Fort Worth Contact Center to discuss your visit, if needed.

What should I do, if I suspect someone is illegally dumping, rather than using a Drop-Off Station, a private disposal location, or the landfill?

Illegal dumping and littering are crimes. To report illegal dumping sites, call (817) 392-1234. If you observe illegal dumping in the act, call 911. Residents can also report illegal dumping sites from their mobile device through the MyFW App.

How much is 5 cubic yards?

What type of vehicle is allowed?

 Only single-axle trailers that do not exceed 8 feet long (personal and/or rented) are permitted for transporting materials to Drop-Off Stations. Box trucks are not allowed.

What vehicles are NOT allowed at the DOS?

• Dual-axle trailers are not allowed, only single-axle trailers up to 8 feet long are permitted.
• Box trucks are not allowed, only single-axle trailers up to 8 feet long are permitted.
• Commercial labeled/unlabeled vehicles

Landscapers and construction contractors must dispose of waste at a permitted mulching or compost sites or the Southeast Landfill.

Are children and pets allowed at the Drop-Off Stations?

 Children under 12 years old are not allowed outside the vehicle. Pets are not allowed outside of the vehicle.

Can I smoke at the Drop-Off Stations or the Environmental Collection Center?

No. Smoking is not allowed within the Drop-Off Stations or Environmental Collections Center.

I am not a Fort Worth resident; can I use the Drop-Off Stations?

No. Only City of Fort Worth residents with active City of Fort Worth solid waste account on your water bill are allowed to use the Drop-Off Stations.

Can my friends use my water bill?

 No. Only City of Fort Worth residents with active City of Fort Worth solid waste account on your water bill are allowed to use the Drop-Off Stations. You cannot send anyone else to the Drop-Off Stations with your water bill or driver’s license. You must accompany them. Please call the 311 Fort Worth Contact Center at (817) 392-1234 if special arrangements for a visit are needed.

I have an elderly family member that has difficulty getting to the DOS. Can I bring their waste for them?

 If a resident is elderly, disabled, or needs special assistance, please call the 311 Fort Worth Contact Center at (817) 392-1234 to make special arrangements for a visit.

Do you accept materials and recyclables from commercial businesses?

 No, the Drop-Off Stations are for residents only. If you are a commercial business and need information, visit our Commercial Waste & Recycling site or contact the 311 Fort Worth Contact Center at (817) 392-1234.
