Help shape the future of Goodman Park by taking our quick survey.
In late 1967, Ruth Carter Johnson (later Stevenson) and her husband, J. Lee Johnson III, conveyed to the City of Fort Worth two lots on Goodman Avenue to be used exclusively for recreational purposes or for the care and welfare of residents “on a non-sectarian basis and without discrimination whatsoever.” The park is in the Como neighborhood, a historic west-side African American community. Its acquisition was meant to provide parkland to an underserved neighborhood that historically had few parks. It was informally known as Como Mini Park until 1970, when the Park Board approved the present name. It has 0.014 acres and takes its name from the adjacent street.
