Real Property Sales

The City of Fort Worth has 2 types of properties for sale, City Surplus Property (also known as City fee-owned because it is owned in fee-simple) and Tax-Foreclosed Property. The sale of City Surplus property is regulated by Texas Local Government Code Chapter 272; Chapter 21, Subchapter E of the Texas Property Code; Texas Local Government Code §253.014(e); and/or Chapter XXI, Section 5 of the Fort Worth City Charter. The sale of tax-foreclosed property is regulated by Chapter 34 of the Property Tax Code.

Potential buyers are urged to perform their due diligence on any Tax-Foreclosed or City Surplus Property they are interested in buying. All properties are sold "as is" and may be subject to redemption if the tax foreclosure redemption period has not expired.

In order to determine if a property that you may be interested in qualifies for direct sale, you will need to submit a Direct Sale Request, which can be found in the Forms section of this page. The sale of any City Fee-Owned Property valued in excess of $125,000.00 is also subject to the notice, petition, referendum, and election process provided by Chapter XXI, Section 5 of the Fort Worth City Charter. In order for a property to be sold through the direct sale process, it must meet certain criteria, which varies based on the property type.
