Charter

The Fort Worth City Charter defines the organization, powers, functions and essential procedures of city government. The city’s first home rule charter was adopted in 1924, establishing the city council/city manager form of government Fort Worth uses today. The charter has been amended 13 times since adoption, most recently in 2006.

City Council Contacts

In council-manager systems – the most popular form of government in the United States today – a city council appoints a city manager to administer and coordinate municipal operations and programs. In Fort Worth, council also appoints the city secretary, city attorney, city auditor, municipal court judges and residents who serve on city boards and commissions.

City Management Contacts

Though the city manager is appointed by City Council, the City Manager’s Office is made up of non-political employees much like any other office. The employees in the City Manager’s Office oversee city operations and processes while acting as a clearinghouse for information both requested by and submitted to City Council.

Code Compliance Contacts

The Code Compliance Department maintains Fort Worth's status as a clean, livable city by ensuring the property complies with rules set by City Council. Code Officers routinely patrol assigned neighborhoods for code violations and investigate complaints with a mission of abating issues and educating residents.

Community Action Partners CAP

Services include utility, rent, mortgage, and social services. Federal and local funded programs to assist residents.

Covid-19

The City of Fort Worth is working with its partners at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Texas Department of Health and Human Services, and Tarrant County Public Health to closely monitor the COVID-19 outbreak.

COVID-19 Testing

COVID-19 causes a respiratory illness with fever and cough, which may lead to severe pneumonia, and is similar to the SARS and MERS coronaviruses.
