TCU students deliver a car full of joy for FWACC animals

Who knew doggies, not diamonds, could be a girl’s best friend? That became clear when a Mini Cooper filled with dog treats and toys glided into the parking lot of Fort Worth’s Silcox Animal Shelter.
More than 30 pounds of dog treats, a dozen cans of pet food, toys, plenty of blankets, and so much more filled the compact car, with each item collected by a fellow Delta Gamma sorority sister from Texas Christian University.
“It’s the best, there’s no better way to help,” said senior Gaby Dorta. She and a few of her friends volunteer with FWACC frequently, and ahead of the Christmas holiday, they rallied their fellow classmates to donate a plethora of goodies for shelter animals.
Everything from pet food, toys, treats, foster bags, and training pads were stuffed into the back seat and trunk of Dorta’s car, an effort she describes as a small gesture meant to help liven up the holidays for Fort Worth’s shelter animals.
Dorta has fostered FWACC pets before and says her organization is always looking for ways to get involved in the community, especially when it means helping animals. She and her friends participate in Frogs for Dogs, a student-run organization dedicated to volunteering and fostering FWACC animals. “Sometimes I’ll just come and see the dogs and hang out with them for a little, and just that is amazing,” said Dorta.
They consistently take part in Puppies & Pizza fundraisers and have even fostered transport animals. Dorta says she and her friend Ana co-parented a foster pup named Doug one year, and they both fell in love. Their deep affection resulted in a foster fail, and now Doug calls Ana’s place his forever home.
“If I ever become a millionaire and win the lottery, I’ll just buy a huge house and a huge farm and have a thousand dogs,” she joked.
With a Mini Cooper’s worth of toys and treats, Dorta and her TCU friends are making sure Fort Worth’s shelter animals can enjoy the holiday season getting pampered.
