Transportation and Public Works (TPW) Services

To report flooding or dangerous street conditions such as trees or other obstacles on city streets, hazardous potholes, traffic signal malfunctions, damaged street lights or traffic signs, call customer service at 817-392-1234. (Or use the myFW app.)

Hours are Monday through Friday 7 a.m.- 6 p.m.; Saturdays 7 a.m.-4 p.m. While not monitored 24-hours, residents are encouraged to call when Customer Service is open to report issues encountered at any time.

Texas Pollution Discharge Elimination System

This permit authorizes existing or new stormwater point source discharges to surface water in the state from those portions of the Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) owned or operated by the permittees.

Traffic Signals, Pavement Markings and Signs

Traffic Markings, Signs and Signals Traffic signs and signals help control traffic to make intersections safer for all modes of transportation. TPW continually investigates signage needs citywide as well as installs temporary signs for special events as needed

Neighborhood Identification Sign Guidelines

Guidelines for the installation of signs identifying neighborhoods on public streets. It shall in no way alter the existing street name signing policy of the City of Fort Worth.

Street Lights

Transportation and Public Works is responsible for maintenance of 64,944 street lights and response to approximately 10,000 service requests annually.

Truck Routes

Truck-tractors, trailers, semitrailers or commercial vehicles may only use city streets designated as truck routes, unless the destination or point of origin is outside of these routes. For a map of truck routes in Fort Worth, visit the Traffic Engineering Office, 5001 James Ave

Blocked Inlets

Street flooding is often the result of storm drains that are too small to handle heavy runoff. In other cases, though, the drain may need cleaning. Report street flooding to TPW Customer Service and crews will investigate.

Railroad Safety Program

With 204 railroad grade crossings, more per capita than any other large city in Texas, the city is committed to improving railroad crossing safety and developing new quiet zones.

Ground Transportation Office

The Ground Transportation Office oversees taxicabs, shuttles, limousines and other for-hire passenger vehicles.

Valet Parking Licensing

Valet service operators must obtain licenses from the City of Fort Worth to operate. Licenses are valid from Jan. 1 through Dec. 31 each calendar year.

School Crossing Guard Program

The City of Fort Worth currently provides crossing guard services to 12 districts with schools located within Fort City Limits.

Sidewalk Program

Transportation Management handles sidewalk programs throughout the City.

Neighborhood Traffic Calming

Traffic Calming is the use of physical design features to reduce automobile speeds or volumes in both residential and commercial areas.

Vision Zero

Vision Zero is an internationally recognized strategy to eliminate traffic fatalities and serious injuries.

The City of Fort Worth is making big plans to Move a Million (M1M). The M1M Master Transportation Plan will unify all Fort Worth’s transportation-related plans into ONE VISION. The result will be a capital program tied to city policies and funding realities, grounded in the wants and needs.
