Valerie Washington serves as one of four Assistant City Managers for the City of Fort Worth and her current portfolio includes the Fort Worth Fire Department, City Manager’s Office, Department of Code Enforcement and the Municipal Courts. She has a strong passion for public safety and local government, and works hard to be an advocate for the city’s personnel.

Prior to joining the City of Fort Worth, she served as the Deputy Director and Chief Financial Officer for the Indianapolis/Marion County Department of Public Safety (DPS). In that capacity, she was responsible for the operational and financial management for all DPS divisions and its 3200 employees.

Washington has been involved in local government service for more than 16 years and has worked in various departments ranging from the County Clerk’s Office, the Election Board, the Marion Superior Courts, and the Office of Audit and Performance. In her role with the Office of Audit and Performance, Washington successfully earned her Lean Six Sigma Black Belt and completed a project with the Marion County Sheriff’s Office that yielded a savings of over one million dollars.

A native of Indianapolis, Ind., Washington is a graduate of Cathedral High School and Manchester University. While living in Indianapolis she was an active member of the local Red Cross Board, the Monumental Marathon Board and the Urban League Finance Committee.

She and her daughter Lourdes now reside in Southwest Fort Worth and she serves on the Board of Trustees for Fort Worth Academy and is an active member of the National Charity League, Fort Worth Chapter.
