With those factors in mind, it is crucial that women have a strategy to ensure they always have enough income.

Ellie Saul will present how to generate a predictable, sustainable income for a lifetime, basic financial literacy for women, how to transition to retirement and other important facets of financial planning. The fun, free and informative workshop is set for 2 p.m. Saturday, July 23, at the Fort Worth Public Library-Central. Those who are unable to attend in person may watch the live stream via Zoom.

“If you were born between 1952 and 1962, you’re going to live longer than anyone ever has,” Saul says in one of her videos. “What do you want to be when you grow up. The first time I asked that question, a student raised her hand immediately and said ‘Healthy!’

“That’s the right answer. No matter what we want to be – we want to be healthy, enjoy our lives, always have enough.”

It hasn’t been that long since women were granted certain financial freedoms. For example:

  • In 1960, it became legal for a woman to own a bank account in America.
  • In 1967, the first woman attained a seat at the NY stock exchange (1,365 men filled the other seats).
  • In 1974, the Equal Credit Opportunity Act gave a woman the right to have a credit card in her name.
  • In 1974, a woman could legally apply for a loan without a male co-signer.
  • In 1981, men who co-owned homes with women had to obtain consent before taking out a second mortgage on the home.

Saul has been teaching Medicare classes and helping financial advisors with health protection analysis for their clients. Ellie believes teaching Medicare is her calling and that there is no one-size-fits-all solution. She is passionate about providing educational resources for her students without promoting a specific company or product in her class. Her Mama Bear Medicare website offers resources and tips on a variety of related subjects.
