Nonresident Library Cards

If you do not live in or own property in Fort Worth, do not qualify for a TexShare card or are not a resident of a  MetrOPAC city you may purchase a Non-resident Card for $50 per year.

A Nonresident Card allows individuals to check out items owned by the Fort Worth Library, access online databases, download items such as music and e-Books, and use Library computers. Not valid for MetrOPAC items. Cards are valid for one year from date of purchase. Standard checkout limits apply.

Requirements for Ecard

Step 1.The following are acceptable forms of identification:

  • Texas Driver's License
  • Texas Department of Public Safety ID
  • Current school ID card
  • Military ID
  • Passport
  • Matricula consular (separate residency verification required)
  • Children 17 and younger may also use their current school ID, school transcript, or homeschool association documents. The parent's or guardian's ID is also acceptable.

Step 2.The following are acceptable verifications of current address or Fort Worth property ownership:

  • Texas Driver's License
  • Texas Department of Public Safety ID
  • First-class business mail postmarked within the last 30 days
  • Lease agreement signed by current landlord
  • Current insurance card if it includes the address
  • Current Medicaid card if it includes the address
  • Personal printed check if it includes the address
  • Report card for the current school year
  • Tarrant Appraisal District statement for current year
  • Tarrant County Assessor/Collector of Taxes statement for current year
  • Texas Department of Transportation Vehicle Registration
  • Texas vehicle insurance card
  • Utility bill postmarked within 30 days

Step 3.Read

  • Parents or guardians who wish to register children who are not with them at the time of registration must present the child's birth certificate, immunization record, school ID, school transcript, school report card, passport, visa, or military ID.
  • The adult whose signature is on a child's card is responsible for all materials checked out on that child's card.
  • Any card may be used to check out any materials. The parent's or guardian's permission is required to check out DVDs and videocassettes on youth cards.
  • The maximum check out limit is 50 barcoded items, including ten video cassettes, ten compact discs, ten music cassettes, and ten DVDs.
  • Cards must be renewed every three years. You must provide current ID and residency or property ownership verification to renew your card.
  • Customers are responsible for notifying the library, in person or online, to update their address, phone number, and email addresses.
  • Customers should notify the library immediately if their card is lost or stolen. You are responsible for all materials checked out on your card until you report the loss or theft.
  • If you have not used your card to check out materials, your card will be purged from the system after 3 years.

Access your account

You may access your account information 24/7 online. You’ll need your library barcode number, your PIN, a touchtone phone, and any items you’re renewing.

Nonresident Student Card

A nonresident individual currently attending pre-K through 12th grade at any formally recognized educational institution may use Fort Worth Library services and materials, including remote access to FWL-licensed databases, e-books and other electronic services at no cost. NSCs expire one year after the date issued. Enrollment is subject to verification. Acceptable forms of verification include the following:

  • Current Student ID
  • Report card or progress report dated within the last six months
  • Current school-enrollment paperwork
  • Current school-issued class schedule
  • Letter from a teacher, principal or school librarian on school letterhead

Nonresident City of Fort Worth Employee Card

City of Fort Worth employees who are not residents of Fort Worth are eligible for a free library card.

  • A nonresident City of Fort Worth employee must complete an application and show proof of current address and employee identification.
  • Nonresident City of Fort Worth employees have the same borrowing privileges as Fort Worth residents, including offsite access to licensed, online databases and downloadable books, music or movies.
  • Nonresident employees’ family members are not eligible for library cards.
  • Cards must be renewed annually. Employee identification and proof of current address are required to renew cards.

Nonresident Volunteer Cards

Nonresidents who complete 100 hours of volunteer service through the Library’s Volunteer Program may receive one Nonresident Volunteer Card entitling them to borrow library materials or use library services free of charge during the time the card is valid. Such card is valid for one year following completion of the 100 hours and may be renewed upon completion of an additional 100 hours service. Nonresident Volunteer Cards have full access to Fort Worth Library materials and services, including remote access to OverDrive, online databases, and other electronic resources.
