Requirements for roosters and fowl

Lot size and amount of roosters/fowl

½ acre or less:

  • 12 fowl, of which no more than two can be roosters.

More than ½ acre but less than 1 acre:

  • 25 fowl, of which no more than two can be roosters.

More than 1 acre:

  • 50 fowl, of which no more than two can be roosters.

All roosters/fowl must be contained in a pen or coop at all times.

  • Pens/coops must be cleaned daily.
  • Roosters/fowl must be secured in pens or coops more than 50 feet from any regulated structure.

What is a regulated structure?

  • Any residence, structure or building used for human habitation, other than the person’s habitation.
  • Restaurant, cafe or eating establishment.
  • Church, school, hospital, convalescent home, nursing home or residential treatment facility.
  • Daycare facility, facility offering medical or dental services, hotel, motel or other lodging facility.

Noise requirements

It shall be unlawful to keep, or to permit the keeping of, any dog(s) or rooster(s) or any other bird or animal that creates any bark, cry, crow or other sound on a frequent, repetitive or continuous basis for ten minutes or longer.
