Fun facts

Located in southeast Fort Worth, Cobb Park is located along Sycamore Creek, south of Sycamore Park.  In 1921, H. H. Cobb of the Belcher Land and Mortgage Company offered the city 125 acres along the creek if the city consented to making improvements. Since the city did not make these improvements, it delayed the city receiving title to the land until 1923 when the Cobb’s O. K. Cattle Company deeded one hundred and fifty acres as park, provided the city construct and maintain roads.

By 1930, a three-quarter mile drive connecting Sycamore and Cobb parks was constructed. The road was named “Kessler Drive” in honor of George Kessler and his 1909 master plan calling for the city’s major parks being linked.  Cobb Park received improvements during the 1930’s New Deal programs, including the construction of low stone walls edging a scenic drive.  In 1946, the city council approved the park board’s purchase of 14.5 acres south of Maddox Avenue that connected Cobb Park with Sycamore Park, which fulfilled Hare and Hare’s plan of park linkage.

The park grew to encompass two hundred and twenty-four acres. A 2008 master plan for the park called for $25.6 million in improvements resulting in better access to all park areas. Work on Phase One began on January 2011. Improvements included tree canopy thinning and undergrowth thinning, construction of a new road and pedestrian vehicle bridge connecting features west of Cobb Park Road to the park’s underutilized east side, monument signs at two entrances, a parking lot, a new playground and rock boulder play area, three shelters, and security lighting. The first phase funded from gas lease revenue and matching funds from the Tarrant Regional Water District.
