The intersection of Meadowbrook Boulevard and Eastchase Parkway is looking a lot more whimsical lately.

Fort Worth Public Art recently installed Eastchase Island in far east Fort Worth’s Council District 5.

Eastchase Island transforms an ordinary traffic median into something unexpected: a landscape where oversized mushrooms, a heroic-sized snail, wandering ants and a vigilant ceramic toad emerge from the everyday flow of traffic.

Created by Houston artist and educator Paul Kittelson, the installation encourages motorists to momentarily leave behind the routines of commuting and enter an imaginative world inspired by the hidden ecosystems that exist at our feet.

The story of Eastchase Island is a fable about coexistence and the way we live our lives in a delicate dance with nature.
