Fort Worth’s community centers are more than just buildings, they are hubs for recreation, learning, connection, and support. As our city grows and evolves, so do the needs of the people we serve.

This assessment will help us:

• Understand how well current facilities are meeting community needs.

• Identify where improvements or new facilities are needed most.

• Prioritize investments for the greatest long-term impact.

• Ensure equitable access to quality programming across all districts.

By taking a strategic, data-driven approach, we can reimagine Fort Worth’s community centers as vibrant, inclusive places that support residents of all ages, now and for generations to come.

The Community Center Facility Assessment includes a comprehensive review of Fort Worth’s existing community centers and helps shape a long-term plan for future improvements. Key elements of the project include:

Existing Conditions Assessment

• Site visits to all 21 City-operated community centers
•  Observations of building conditions, ADA compliance, and MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing) systems

• Service area mapping to identify coverage gaps

Peer City Benchmarking

• Review of how comparable cities manage and operate their community centers

• Analysis of best practices and national standards

Public & Stakeholder Engagement

• Special interest group meetings 

• Park Board presentation of final recommendations

Facility Planning & Prioritization

• Development of a scoring system to rank facilities

• Recommendations for renovation, replacement, or new construction

• Preliminary concept plans to guide future investment

This process will result in a clear, data-informed assessment to guide Fort Worth’s community center improvements over the coming years.
