P.A.W.S. for Patriots is dedicated to supporting veterans and active service members through hands-on experiences and meaningful connections with shelter pets. This program connects the healing power of animals with the strength and resilience of our military community, offering veterans a chance to heal, grow, and find a renewed sense of purpose as they help shelter pets find their forever homes.

What We Do

P.A.W.S. for Patriots offers therapeutic volunteer roles, fostering opportunities, job-readiness programs, and a comprehensive resource network tailored for veterans. These programs are designed to empower veterans while improving the lives of the animals in our care.
Veterans are able to support our shelter animals through care, training, socialization, and advocacy, while gaining new skills, building community, and finding a renewed purpose through service.

P4P Initiatives:

  • P.A.W.S. Academy
A hands-on volunteer program where veterans train and socialize shelter dogs, helping prepare them for adoption through structured guidance and behavior shaping.
  • P4P Foster Program
Veterans can foster pets in need of quiet, healing environments—extending training, building trust, and giving shelter pets a break from kennel life.
  • Ruck & Roll: Doggy Day Out
Take a dog out for a day trip or overnight stay, offering them valuable socialization, decompression time, and fun new experiences outside the shelter.
  • Resource Hub
A one-stop shop for veteran and military-connected individuals to access local services, mental health support, employment resources, and animal care assistance.
  • Return to Work Program (Launching 2025)
A job-readiness program offering transitioning service members and veterans paid work experience within the shelter setting.
