The City of Fort Worth advocates for Trap-Neuter-Release/Return (TNR) as the preferred approach to managing these cats

Community cats, often called strays, neighborhood cats or feral cats, live outdoors rather than belonging to a specific household. They may be cared for by multiple residents or survive on their own.

These cats are easily identified by a small notch in their left ear, which indicates they have been spayed or neutered through a Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) program. TNR involves humanely trapping healthy community cats, vaccinating and sterilizing them, then returning them to the area where they were found. This helps improve their health, reduce nuisance behaviors and prevent future litters.

Because community cats are not owned by a single person, they are rarely reclaimed if taken to a shelter. Many are also too fearful to thrive in a shelter environment.

Fort Worth Animal Care & Control offers TNR services by appointment and through monthly clinics, based on capacity and available grant funding.

Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) Clinics 

FWACC occasionally hosts free TNR clinics at both the Silcox Adoption Center and Henry's Animal Campus.

Our free Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) clinics help reduce future litters, improve the health of community cats and create a healthier community for everyone. Available to Fort Worth residents, each community cat receives spay/neuter surgery, a rabies vaccine, an FVRCP vaccine, a microchip and an ear tip, the nationally recognized sign that a community cat has been sterilized and vaccinated.

Appointments are available on a first-come, first-served basis on select dates.
