ULI UrbanPlan for Communities
Looking to better understand the real estate development process? Many DFW communities experience or witness development in their neighborhoods every day. UrbanPlan for Communities is a workshop that engages local residents and community leaders who would like to learn more about the challenging issues, roles, tradeoffs, and economic choices that shape our built environment, and the important roles citizens can play in land use decisions in their neighborhoods.
Workshop Overview
Participants will gain a deeper understanding of how the built environment is shaped and adopt roles as part of competing development teams responding to a hypothetical city-issued request for proposal (RFP). Teams work together to create a feasible proposal that meets hypothetical RFP’s objectives and the community’s interests, culminating in a final presentation to a mock City Council, made up of ULI Dallas-Fort Worth members.
ULI member-volunteers meet with teams during the planning process to provide feedback on the proposals, review the final proposals in a mock city council, and present a real-life case study to spur discussion about how the concepts introduced in UrbanPlan are impacting local neighborhoods. This workshop will be taught by a trained ULI instructor.
