Public Safety Notice—Emergency Alerts Update
The City of Fort Worth’s Office of Emergency Management is notifying the public that we have been advised by Crisis24, our emergency notification system vendor, they have suspended access to the legacy CodeRED alerting software as a precautionary measure following the detection of potential security vulnerabilities. At this time, we have been given limited information on the extent of the breach. This system is used to deliver mass critical emergency alerts such as severe weather warnings, evacuation notices, and public safety information. Out of an abundance of caution, IPAWS is disconnecting Alerting Authorities that use CodeRED as an alert origination software tool.
Public safety is always our highest priority, and our office is already implementing back-up protocols to ensure there is no interruption to the City’s ability to send emergency alerts—including Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA) and other IPAWS messages. This means the City will remain fully capable of sending WEA and other critical public safety messages should the need arise. We understand the importance of timely notifications and appreciate residents’ patience during this time. Please continue to stay aware of your surroundings and follow official instructions during emergencies.
During this time, residents are encouraged to:
