Shred day is every day

The City of Fort Worth is now offering paper shredding to Fort Worth residents every day.

 

In person

Step 1.Secure shred carts

  • Four of the city’s drop-off stations, providing a location to bring items for free shredding.
  • Residents of Fort Worth can bring up to three boxes per visit and up to six boxes every 30 days of personal, sensitive documents to be securely shredded.
  • Boxes should weigh no more than 40 pounds each.

  • Fort Worth residents can call 817-392-1234 for information about solid waste, recycling, drop-off stations, and other disposal methods for items not accepted at the ECC.
  • Residents of other participating entities should contact their garbage/recycling programs for disposal information.
  • The TCEQ encourages consumers to take advantage of local electronics recycling opportunities. Texas consumers can learn how to recycle their computer equipment by visiting Texas Recycles Computers and their television equipment by visiting Texas Recycles TVs. For more information on the programs, contact the TCEQ’s Pollution Prevention and Education Section, 512-239-3143.

Step 2.Educational Programs

Environmental Quality uses the cartoon team – Captain Crud and the Cruddies – to promote the safe disposal of hazardous waste and protection of the quality of Fort Worth’s water. Several lesson plans are available. Call 817-392-6647 for more information.

What kinds of paper can I bring?

Sensitive papers that carry your Social Security number, birth date, signature, account numbers, passwords or PIN numbers. These include: old tax information, old bills, dated bank statements, credit card statements, old checks, file folders, medical records, identification, contracts and other business documents. Please note you do not need to remove staples or paperclips.

What is not accepted?

Metal clips, binders, CDs, DVDs, floppy disks, photos, credit cards and plastic of any kind. No documents with name and address only; these should be recycled.

Is there a limit on how much I can bring?

Yes. Residents are limited to three boxes per visit and up to six boxes every 30 days.

Show a recent Fort Worth water bill or current driver’s license with a Fort Worth address and have an active sanitation account.

 

 

What about secure shredding?

All paper collected at the drop-off stations is being transferred to the Tarrant County Secure Document Destruction facility for shredding and recycling by Tarrant County. Unfortunately due to logistics, witnessing is not allowed. If document destruction witnessing is required, please contact a company that allows for witnessing of document destruction.
