Reading is a big part of the Fort Worth Mayor’s Summer Reading Challenge, and we have special activities planned all summer to make reading even more fun!

Sign up for the challenge on the Beanstack app, track your progress as you complete challenges and log the time you read. Participating in story times counts toward reading goals, too!

Your little ones can experience a memorable meet-and-greet as storybook characters Pete the Cat or Llama Llama come to life! Story times engage children in singing, dancing, hearing some great stories, making fun crafts and also social interactions with peers. Visit during one of these special story times to snag some fun photos with your child’s favorite characters!

We have a whole slate of community leaders who are scheduled to visit our libraries for special story times – from elected City of Fort Worth officials to members of the Fort Worth Police Department. Our special guests will read and interact with participants to show that leaders are readers!

Want to venture outdoors for fresh-air fun? Your Fort Worth Public Library card grants you free admission to the Fort Worth Nature Center & Refuge, 7 a.m.-noon on the first Mondays of June, July and August! Enjoy the natural surroundings, hiking trails and other amenities, and then join us as we partner with the Nature Center to offer a fun nature-themed story time at 10:30 a.m.

Want to find even more fun at the Library? Be energized with special performances that include kid-friendly music concerts, adventure stories, magic shows, engaging science experiments and up-close encounters with animals – from creepy critters to friendly farm creatures!

The reading challenge starts today and runs through Aug. 12. Don’t miss out on the fun!
