Design, print and put your bridge to the test!

Throughout the month of September (Sept. 1-30), the Fort Worth Public Library is challenging teens in grades 6-12 to use 3D design software to create a bridge and then build it using a 3D printer – all with tools available at libraries across the city. The winner will receive a 3D printer and the runner up will receive a 3D printing pen. 

Bridges will be judged on strength (see rules and submission guidelines below).

Rules

Contest rules 

  • IMPORTANT: All bridge designs must be able to accommodate an S-hook, which will be used to test bridge strength. Bridges must also be printed using a Fort Worth Public Library 3D printer.
  • Dimensions: 7 inches long, 2 inches tall, 1 inch deep.
  • Material: ABS filament (available at all Fort Worth Public Library locations).
  • Time: Maximum print time of 2 hours.

How to submit

Submissions

  • Must include: design file, printed bridge and a form with contact information. The bridge will not be returned. It will be broken to determine which bridge carries the heaviest load.
  • Teens in grade 6-12 are welcome to enter.
  • A person can only enter the contest once.
  • All submissions must be an original creation.
  • All submissions must be received before libraries close at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2025.
