Bonycle Sokunbi

Director, Office of Police Oversight Monitor (OPOM)

Sokunbi grew up calling Air Force bases all over the world home, from Italy to Oklahoma and has learned how to build meaningful connections with her community.

Sokunbi received her bachelor’s degree in public relations from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and attended law school and graduated from Loyola University New Orleans School of Law. Sokunbi joined the Office of the Independent Police Monitor in New Orleans in 2018 as executive director of community relations in 2018. Later, she oversaw the Use of Force Department and the Misconduct and Complaints Department along with serving as the chief of staff for the office. Sokunbi has been the Director of OPOM since September 2023.
