City Hall Plaza contains 2.5 acres and is the site of Fort Worth City Hall which opened in 1975 and was designed by famed New York architect Edward Durell Stone (1902-1978). Stone’s design brought the new “Brutalist” style of architecture to the heart of the city. The building takes up most of the site but its pilotis creates covered walkways on two sides of the building that provide a popular walking track for city employees. Fort Worth City Hall was built on the former location of the city’s old federal building and post office, originally constructed in 1896 and demolished in 1970 after the site was purchased by the city for the construction of the new city hall.[1]
