George Markos Park is named in memory of Captain George Markos (1939-1965), a Fort Worth resident who was an Army helicopter pilot during the Vietnam War. In 1964, he was awarded the Air Medal for meritorious achievement while engaged in aerial combat. Captain Markos was killed in action on February 7, 1965 in Pleiku Province, South Vietnam. In 2006, the 29.7 acre park received new playground equipment. Visitors will also find a trail in George Markos Park.
