History

On September 11, 2024, City Council authorized (M&C 24-0797) the Park & Recreation Department to acquire this 21.37 acre property to be dedicated as parkland.

Geology

The park is comprised of Early Cretaceous Fort Worth Limestone and Duck Creek Formations. These formations have many ancient sea fossils: pecten are more abundant in the Fort Worth Limestone, while Gryphea are more abundant in the Duck Creek Formation.

Soils

The park is equal parts Slidell and Sanger soils. Slidell series consists of very deep, moderately well drained, very slowly permeable soils that formed in calcareous, clayey sediments. Sanger soils contain clayey upland soils that overlies the area’s geology.

Ecology

The park has a stock pond with emergent shoreline vegetation. The site is mostly wooded with a small section of recovering prairie that was farmed long ago; likely for cattle forage.
