Fun Facts & History

The creation of Little People Park was the result of a cooperative effort between the South Hills Neighborhood Association, the Westcreek [Elementary School] Parent-Teacher Association and the Park & Recreation Department. Members of the neighborhood association, which was bounded by Loop 820, Altamesa, and the Santa Fe tracks to Woodway and encompassed nearly 3,000 houses, had sought a park for the young children living in the area as only one small park served the neighborhood. A new park was developed on 2.6 acres next to Westcreek Elementary School with the park department adding features at the suggestion of the neighborhood association. Approximately 400 people attended a special opening celebration for the park in late September 1981. A highlight of the day was the revelation of the park’s name which had been chosen in a contest sponsored by the association. Christi Davis submitted the winning entry. Improvements over the years have included playground renovations in 2003 with funding from the U.S. Department of Interior Urban Park and Recreation Recovery grant funds and Texas Parks and Wildlife Department Community Development Block Grant funds.  The park now contains a shelter, playground, and grills.
