Lifeguard Training


Want to have a splash at the pool this summer while earning extra money and gaining valuable work experience?

Individuals interested in becoming a lifeguard at one of the City of Fort Worth's aquatic facilities are asked to undergo tryouts before completing the American Red Cross lifeguard certification course. Class participants must be 15 or older to take the class, and must be 16 or older to work for the City of Fort Worth.

Participants must pass a swimming pre-test to qualify for the class. This pre-test will consist of:

  • A 300 meter swim (front crawl or breast stroke)
  • Treading water for two minutes, without using hands
  • A timed brick retrieval from a depth of 12 feet

Final tryout/class for 2022 Season

We will be having a lifeguard certification class starting Tuesday, May 31 and ending on June 1.  We will be conducting tryouts at the begging of class on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m., on passing the tryout be prepared to stay for the class which will end at 10 p.m. This would be the last opportunity to get certified this season. This will be a fast and hard lifeguard class so please be prepared to cover lots of information in a short time.


May 31 - 4:30 p.m. - 10 p.m. (tryout at 4:30 p.m.)

June 1 - 10 a.m. - 10 p.m.

If you have already completed the tryout you will not have to do it again but please arrive at 4:30 p.m. so we can get started as soon as possible.


There is no charge for this class.
